December 15, 2013: Greatness

Got to have permission per all those copyright rules!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be great?

When I see greatness in people, I see a lot of worn-out folks. It seems to be great, one has to be a kind of successful Sisyphus—you know, the character from Greek mythology who is condemned to push a boulder up a hill only to have it roll down again. Only in the case I’m making, the great finally succeed at some Sisyphus-ian task. I mean, how easy is it to change the course of history without killing off a bunch of folks? The pen or the word may be mightier than a sword at times, but oh the wrinkles and gray and weakened immune systems…

Bonus Round?:
Okay, folks like me will never be great, except perhaps in some small way—like appreciating a mountain appropriately moved. Sometimes small insights gained, even if greatness of behaviors and perseverance lack, can be of some comfort. I’ll certainly take that comfort.
