    Hello Dr. Gibbs,

Why can’t I zoom out your wesite to make the letter bigger to read? I am using touch screen, and the letters are too small. Thanks. Megan

How can I comment on your quote?

    Mr. Gibbs

In my career, thus far, you have been the best teachers I’ve had. I just wanted to thank you for your inspiration and your shared knowledge. Best regards.

    • Travis Gibbs says:

That is quite a compliment ndelao–thank you! I trust you’ll take any inspiration, fine tune it, make it your own, and put it out there to see how it flies. It won’t always, though I think it should if it’s a flying machine.

Okay, little lame on the humor, but I do thank you as what you shared is also inspirational–and sobering as well.

The best to you as well,
      Travis

OMG huge fan, very inspirational, I enjoy reading your words of wisdom like wow. jk HI Travis The Great. I was just reading my paradoxes paper and it made me laugh so I googled you to see if you were still alive. lol jk again. I’m glad you still are :) Tomorrow is my first day at Cal State Channel Islands, wish me luck with being a psych major since everyone’s been telling me it’s not going to get me anywhere without a Ph.D :) Hope you’re doing well!

    • Travis Gibbs says:

Wait a minute, you’re just kidding about enjoying my “…words of wisdom like wow”?! LOL (old man getting semi-current with language short-cuts). Yep, I’m still here. And yep, go for the doctorate, Ms. Romero. As you may recall, at the very least it will teach you how much you do not know and I consider that a good learning. So the best of good luck AND good thinking/feeling as you journey!

    Hello Professor Gibbs,

I took your psychology classes back in 2016-2018 at Moreno Valley Community College.

Throughout my journey as a student, I would tend to look back to my days at MVCC. At the time, my girlfriend and I took a couple of your classes in which we enjoyed very much. Now, we are married and are graduating together next month. We will be graduating from CBU’s Master program of Counseling Psychology and we will both be AMFT’s.

With my time as a student coming to an end, I reflect with a sense of gratitude.

I still tell my wife that you were my favorite professor that I had during college. You always made our classes fun and engaging. I remember how passionate you were in teaching the field of Psychology. I still remember you asking the classroom, Why are you studying Psychology? You would say, “Do not say… because you want to help people! Because you cannot help people!”. Well here I am graduating in Counseling Psychology (LOL). The more hours I get towards licensure, the more I see some truth in that statement.

Your teaching had a big impact on me and I am forever grateful!
I hope you are doing well!

    Best Regards,
    Edgar Ivan Esparza

That’s quite a journey Edgar–many congratulations to both of you! Of course I was being semi-facetious about helping people–one can certainly help folks sometimes, but it is a bit dicey. I hope you remember the bumper-stickers to be a therapist (I’m sure you learned them): 1) seek to understand before you seek to be understood; 2) Help is not a one-size-fits-all, nor is the definition nested solely in the helper and/or the helpee; 3) help tends to have a temporal quality–what helps today, may be a turd tomorrow, which may or may not be a good thing! And with that laugh and because the number of stickers are to the Nth, I stop there.

The interesting thing about teaching/helping is the teacher or the helper will learn for sure, even if others don’t–I felt like I learned a ton anyway. And any help that works, still requires the one learning to do it for themselves. You and your wife obviously did so! However, I am very happy to have been of some help. Thank you for saying so!

Congratulations–your upcoming graduation is not even close to being done. That’s why the ceremony is called commencement and you’re given the door. :)

      Best, Travis
