April 2, 2015: Transcendence

Is transcendence really getting past the need to account for ourselves? I asked someone about it and they said no, not at all—transcendence is about going beyond, about rising above. It is not about accountability.

I was a bit confused as I thought that’s exactly what I’d said—since accounting for ourselves seems so much a part of our world, I wondered if we could go beyond the need to account.

The person I asked became confused and asked how that would work? We have to account for ourselves, they asserted!

Yeah, I wondered to myself, isn’t that exactly what we need to transcend?
